Today's Word
"What do you want me to do for you?"
Luke 18:41 — Jesus to Bartimaeus
Today's Reflection
Jesus is passing through Jericho.
A blind man is shouting his name from the side of the road.
The crowd tells him to be quiet.
He shouts louder.
Jesus stops and asks him a question that seems almost unnecessary:
"What do you want me to do for you?"
The man is blind.
The question seems to answer itself. And yet Jesus asks it.
He has a habit of this: asking people what they want before he does anything.
He does not assume. He invites them to name it.
There is something important here.
The act of naming what we want, of saying it out loud to God, is not information-gathering.
God does not need our prayers to know our situation.
But we need them.
The moment we say clearly what we are asking for, something changes in us.
We stop being vague about what we want.
We stop half-hoping and half-doubting. We commit to the ask.
The blind man knew exactly what he wanted. "Lord, let me see again."
Do you know what you want?
Not what you think you should want.
What you actually want, today, from God?
Tell him.
Today's Prayer
Lord, you ask me what I want.
I am not always sure.
But here, today, I bring you this:
[say your own prayer here]
You already know. I need to say it.
Thank you for asking.
Amen.
Today's Call
Write down one specific thing you want to ask God for today.
Not a general hope.
Something specific.
Then ask for it.
