Today's Word

"The foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom,

and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength."

1 Corinthians 1:25

Today's Reflection

Lawrence of Brindisi spoke seven languages fluently.

He could preach the Scriptures from memory in Hebrew.

He was one of the finest minds of the sixteenth century.

In 1601, he was sent to lead a Christian army

against a much larger Ottoman force at the Battle of Stuhlweissenburg.

He rode to the front of the army carrying a crucifix.

No sword. No armour.

A crucifix.

The army won.

He spent the rest of his life preaching, writing, and negotiating.

He died at sixty, exhausted,

on a diplomatic mission to plead for the poor people of Naples

against a viceroy who was robbing them.

Lawrence believed in the power of God with the kind of faith

that actually changes what you are willing to do.

Not the comfortable faith that stays in the pew.

The faith that rides to the front of the line.

What would you be willing to do if you truly believed God was with you?

Today's Prayer

Lord, give me the faith of Lawrence.

Not the faith that believes in theory, but the faith that acts.

The faith that walks into hard places carrying only you.

Make me braver than I am.

Amen.

Today's Call

Name one thing you have been holding back from

because you do not feel brave enough or ready enough.

Ask God today for the faith to take one step toward it.
