Today's Word
"Martha welcomed him into her home."
Luke 10:38
Today's Reflection
Notice where the story begins.
Not with Mary sitting at his feet.
Not with Martha's complaint.
It begins with Martha opening the door.
Martha welcomed him.
That word matters.
She is not the villain of this story.
She is the one who let Jesus in.
And yet, in her own home, she loses him.
She is so busy providing for him
that she forgets to be with him.
Mary makes a different choice.
She sits. She listens.
She is fully present to the person in the room.
Jesus says Mary has chosen the better part.
Not the only part. The better part.
The invitation is not to stop serving.
It is to notice whether your service
has become a way of avoiding
the very person you are serving.
Today's Prayer
Lord, you are in this house.
You are in this day.
Help me not to be so busy about you that I miss you.
Slow me down enough to sit,
to listen,
to receive you.
Amen.
Today's Call
At some point today, stop what you are doing and simply be present.
With God, with someone you love, with the moment you are in.
Put down what you are carrying.
Sit, like Mary.
Just for a little while.
